Built on a progressive, development-first approach to the game of football. Serving boys and girls ages –12, WYF provides a structured pathway that introduces athletes to the sport safely, intentionally, and at the right pace.
Through age-appropriate instruction, skill development, and a focus on fundamentals, our Progressive Football Model prepares young athletes for long-term success — on the field and beyond — while fostering teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong love of the game.
Wadsworth Youth Football follows a progressive, development-first approach designed to introduce the game at the right pace for every age. Athletes build skills, confidence, and football IQ as they move through each level — creating a strong foundation for long-term success.
(1st Grade & Under)
Freshman Flag is the first step in the Wadsworth Youth Football Progressive Model. This program introduces the fundamentals of football in a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate environment.
Athletes focus on learning the game, building confidence, and developing basic skills while emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship.
(2nd–3rd Grade)
Padded Flag is the next step in progression toward tackle football. Players wear full protective equipment but use flags instead of tackling to the ground.
This level introduces controlled contact concepts while continuing to emphasize proper technique and skill development.
(4th–5th Grade)
Rookie Tackle is the transition from flag football to full tackle. Players participate in full contact football with tackling to the ground in a modified 8 on 8 format.
This level reinforces proper tackling, blocking, and football fundamentals while preparing athletes for 11 on 11 play.
(6th Grade)
Varsity represents the highest level within Wadsworth Youth Football and features full 11 on 11 tackle football competition.
Athletes apply the skills and fundamentals developed through earlier levels in a traditional tackle football setting.
